Company

Three generations
of precision.

Founded in 1959 by four families chasing the American dream — and still family-owned, still machining the parts that are critical to industry.

Our Story

Pride in every part.

Sunset Industries was incorporated in July 1959 by four partners, three of them Slovenian immigrants who came to Cleveland through an Austrian refugee camp after the Second World War. Together they built a machine shop out of the skills they brought with them, the discipline the trade demands, and gratitude for a new start. One of those founding families — the Hauptmans — still owns the company today.

What began as general and tool machining grew into a specialty: precision components for hydraulic fluid flow, mechanical clamping, electrical power and aircraft fuel systems, made for the tier-one divisions that supply every major airframe and engine program. Those customers audited us, then trusted us to inspect and release our own work — a status we have held for decades.

The third generation is now preparing to lead the next step: multitasking machines, automated inspection, robotic automation and a digital backbone across the business — while the artistry of the skilled machinist and the values of the people who founded the shop remain intact.

Mission & Vision

Why we machine.

Our Mission

To build more than aerospace and industrial components — we are dedicated to precision, driven by quality, and committed to customer partnerships that propel our industry forward.

Our Vision

To shape the future of manufacturing by preserving the artistry of the skilled machinist while integrating cutting-edge technology — and to be the partner of choice for mission-critical components, built on trust and skilled craftsmanship.

Values

The values of our fathers remain intact.

V-01

Integrity First

Steadfast customer service, honest answers on schedule and capability, and respect for every employee and supplier. If a part is wrong, you hear it from us before you find it.

V-02

Craft & Technology

We preserve the artistry of the skilled machinist and pair it with the best equipment we can buy. Neither one alone makes a flight-critical part.

V-03

Say Yes When You Can

The difficult print, the compressed lead time, the odd lot size — if it can be done well, we find a way to do it. If it can't, we tell you that too.

History

Revision history.

67 years, read the way we read everything else — as a revision block. Each line is a change that made the company what it is; the next one is in work.

Machining, assembly, a dedicated inspection department, and shipping and receiving under one roof on Tyler Boulevard — 25 minutes east of Cleveland, 30 from Cleveland Hopkins. We moved here in 2020 with twice the floor space of the Euclid shop and property on site for additions, so new programs and new equipment have somewhere to land as the company grows. Visitors are welcome; the best way to evaluate a supplier is to walk the floor.

Sixty years of Sunset

Founded in 1959, Sunset marked six decades in business the same year it found its new home — still owned by one of the families that started it. The story began in a refugee camp in Austria; the local press told it as "Slovenians followed their American dream."
